The sterilizer chambers
used in the healthcare and industrial market require
periodic cleaning. Overcoming unsightly build up caused
by contaminate resulting from detergents, grease, rust
and normal oxidation acts as an insulator absorbing heat
from your chamber. This absorption causes substantial
reductions in overall sterilizing effectiveness as well
as increased energy consumption over
time.
With ever increasing attention being paid to overall
equipment appearance and maintenance by both Joint
Commission (hospitals) and FDA (pharmaceutical) the
requirement for this type of service is on the
increase.
Three methods of cleaning your sterilizer or autoclave
chambers:
- Mr Grungy's process of polishing the chamber
with pneumatic grinders by highly trained technicians
- Washing with detergents
- Sandblasting or glass beading
SRS
technicians hand polish the sterilizer chamber, door and
end ring to a smooth polished surface. The chamber will
have a smooth finish similar to a stainless steel sink--
easier to maintain. SRS will perform an in-service with
healthcare personnel, to discuss the proper preventative
maintenance. Once a week is recommended,
depending on usage; using diluted neutral pH liquid soap
and scotch pads.
[SRS provides
MSDS sheets for all cleaning products.]
If the customer does not have the personnel to perform
preventative maintenance, SRS offers Maintenance Contracts, yearly
or biannually; call for more details.
Sterilizer chambers are constructed of stainless steel
or steel with heat treated nickel clad. The sandblasted
or glass beaded surface is rough and porous allowing the
impurities of the steam to build up on the surface. The
rough surface is difficult to maintain.
The long term problems of oxidation include:
- The oxidation acts as an insulator absorbing heat.
- This absorption causes uneven heat or slows the heating process of the sterilizer.
- The oxidation can become layered.
- During system cycles, these layers loosen and contaminate the loads or leave wet packs

Refurbishing Service Inc (SRS) has been in business
over 20 years in the healthcare market utilizing only
factory trained personnel. Peter Walczak, president and
co-owner of SRS was trained by AMSCO in Erie,
Pennsylvania for fourteen years (1973-1987) in all facets
of grinding and repairing procedures used by AMSCO for
the sterilizer chambers. SRS has revitalized the OEM grinding
procedure that was discontinued in 1980.
Loading equipment, including racks and shelving can be polished,
repaired or modified on-site. Washer Baskets can be weld
repaired on-site or in our factory by SRS welding technicians.
Scheduling is second-shift, third-shift, or weekends to
the customer's convenience. SRS works with department supervisors,
plant engineers and security at your facilities. All
equipment is provided by SRS (within the continental U.S.)
